SPOTIFY IS NOW AVAILABLE IN GUYANA! WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR LOCAL ARTISTES?

ABOUT SPOTIFY AND INTRODUCTION TO GUYANA AND THE CARIBBEAN
The #1 Music Streaming Platform in the world, Spotify, is now available in Guyana, Spotify is a Swedish audio streaming and media services provider, launched in October 2008. The platform is owned by Spotify AB, a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange since 2018 through its holding company Spotify Technology S.A. based in Luxembourg.
As Stated on ‘Techcrunch.com’ on the 22nd February, 2021, “Over the next few days, Spotify will be launching its service in 85 new markets, and will also roll out 36 new languages on the platform. The news was announced at its online event, “Stream On” today.
The expansion includes markets across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. Combined, these markets include more than a billion people. With these launches, Spotify says “sounds and stories that once remained local will have access to a global audience of fans across nearly 180 markets.” And as part of its ongoing commitment to building a truly borderless audio ecosystem — connecting creators, listeners and content — this move represents the company’s broadest market expansion to date.”

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Majority of Guyanese artistes and musicians make profits off of 3 key-factors, Streams, Sales and Performances, the predominant source of revenue for Guyanese artists is through Performances, However with the new step made by Spotify, All Guyanese now have access to less limited streaming for their favourite artiste, and this also provides more opportunity to receive streaming revenue as well as streaming on the go, without the use of VPN.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ELEMENT AND OTHER HIP-HOP ARTISTS?
As an upcoming Guyanese artist, more specifically in the Hip-Hop Industry, I HAVE done performances however a rap artist isn’t required at most events, while on the other hand, dancehall artists are more needed in these, since Guyana and other Caribbean countries are more dancehall-oriented over Hip-Hop.
With the introduction of Spotify to Guyana, we can build a local fan-base that will be able to stream our music on the go. That, added to the fact that Google Play Music is now unavailable on most current devices, will force Guyanese in a sense, to use another streaming platform to stream music.

MY ADVICE
If you’re a Guyanese Artiste, ACT NOW, Distribute your music to Spotify so that Local fans can stream on the go, make your presence as known as possible in Guyana.
If You are a Hip-Hop artiste in Guyana, and are part of a music team, I would advise that your team Joins my Hip-Hop Community “The Selectiv”, that will officially launch in March 2021, thus far the Community Consists of Two Groups, “The Collectiv” and “Third Street”, and the community is basically a centralized location of the Hip-Hop Hype in Guyana. Our groups can be sourced for performing at Hip-Hop and Poetry nights, open sessions parties etc, all around Guyana, and will be cooperating with radio stations to get more recognition of Guyanese Hip-Hop.
As of Now, you can come to Franale’s Hip Hop and Poetry night on the 28th February 2021 @South View Tavern Georgetown and meet Me (EleMent) and other members of the Collectiv from 6PM to curfew.
